Pilot Launched With Rs 800 Crore Budget, Bringing 125,000 Opportunities
The government rolled out the Prime Minister Internship Scheme on Thursday, aiming to provide 1 crore internships over five years. The scheme is kicking off with a Rs 800 crore pilot, offering 125,000 internships for FY25. Key update: Reservations for SC, ST, OBC, and differently-abled individuals will apply, as confirmed by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Interns aged 21-24, meeting income and employment criteria, can apply. Over 111 companies, including Mahindra and Mahindra and Max Life, have joined. Interns will receive Rs 5,000 monthly support, with Rs 4,500 from the government and Rs 500 from companies' CSR funds. Applicants must register between October 12 to 25, with internships starting from December 2, 2024. In addition, a Rs 6,000 joining bonus, along with insurance under PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, will cover incidental expenses.
