India Set to Participate in Hong Kong Sixes as Tournament Makes a Comeback
November 1-3, 2024 hongkong sixes
After a seven-year break, the Hong Kong Sixes is all set to return in 2024, and cricket enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement. The announcement that India will be participating has only heightened the anticipation.
Team India will compete in the 20th edition of the Hong Kong Sixes from November 1 to 3 at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong. Cricket Hong Kong confirmed India’s involvement via social media, declaring, “Team India is gearing up to smash it out of the park at HK6! Get ready for explosive hitting and a whirlwind of sixes that will electrify the crowd!”
In past tournaments, cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni have represented India in this unique format, making it even more thrilling for fans.
In addition to the Hong Kong Sixes, a championship for differently-abled cricketers is also taking place. Players selected from various state teams, all above 18 years old and many with physical disabilities, will showcase their skills. The tournament is organized by DCCI and Narayan Seva Sansthan, focusing on providing opportunities for the disabled and promoting their rights.
The inauguration and closing ceremonies will be held at the Field Club in Udaipur, with matches taking place at several local venues, including BN University ground and Geetanjali ground. A total of 24 teams will compete in four groups, with matches running from October 15 to 22, followed by semi-finals on October 24 and the final on October 25.
Bhagwan Prasad Gaur, PR head of Narayan Seva Sansthan, shared that the organization has been actively supporting disabled sports since 2017, having successfully hosted various national championships, including wheelchair and blind cricket. Their commitment extends beyond sports, as they provide surgeries, artificial limbs, and self-employment opportunities for over 1.1 million disabled individuals.
Vishnu Sharma Hiteshi, the institute’s Public Relations Officer, noted that the organization is facilitating food, accommodation, and medical support for participants. The championship will also be broadcast live on FanCode.
To ensure smooth execution, 20 committees have been established to handle logistics, security, and other essential aspects of the event. In standing cricket, teams will have four designated runners to assist players who are unable to run due to their disabilities, ensuring fair play and inclusivity.
The tournament aims to highlight the talents of differently-abled cricketers, with a 'Man of the Series' award up for grabs, along with daily 'Man of the Match' honors and prizes for winning teams. Notable players, including World Cup champions from England, will also take part alongside Indian stars like captain Virat Kenny and others from various states.
This championship promises to be a celebration of cricket and inclusivity, showcasing the remarkable skills and spirit of its participants.
